As mentioned in the ConVoy thread, myself and Dan will be travelling up in style: on the Caledonian Sleeper (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caledonian_sleeper) overnight train service.

Although it's early days, we plan to go up on the Thursday evening, to arrive Friday morning and have a free day before the con starts (in other words, we didn't want to miss out by arriving on the morning of the con!)

First offer "bargain berths", so booking 12 weeks in advance can get some very cheap tickets.

Who wants to come aboard?

(Also, I warn you now, I am NOT going to take responsibility for booking people's tickets)

Oh, forgot to say. The sleeper service leaves from London, but stops at Watford, Crewe and Preston along the way...so it should be easy for most people who want to come aboard to get to.

Also, If I am going I will be training it from Queen Street Station the day before the con. I will probably just buy a ticket on the day since it'll be something like a

I'm guessing you'll probably not be coming down just to go back up then!

No but there will be furs who live in the Central Belt of scotland who will go to Queen Street station to get to the con. I might start my own thread closer to the time organising a "Queen Street, Glasgow to Inverness" meeting.

I know I'm early, but if I didn't post this thread, I'd completely forget by the time it came round to doing it

In case you didn't know, the hotel is happily but 200 metres from Inverness train station. I certainly would recommend a cheap train over a car journey (despite how lovely the drive is) as parking is at a premium.

I am thinking about arriving at scotiacon on train. or plane from Birmingham Where i live in oxfordshire it is a ten hour train journey!!. I leave about 6.40 in the morning and arrive in Inverness about 5.45pm. I was thinking on arriving on Thursday.

also what is the bus service like from the airport to inverness

at the moment the train looks like the best option

Don't worry Ant, I'm travelling from London and still looking at various options. The sleeper train is one, flying is quicker, but there is also the option on long distance coaches.

As has been said plenty of options are around, to my knowledge there is a shuttle coach from Inverness airport to the town every 30 minutes.

I'll be probably riding up in the staff convoy, so that will be an interesting ride :P

How long would I be able to fight the urge to yell out, 'We got ourselves a convoy going!'.

I suspect not long at all :P

Anyway dont know if i will be off on the Thursday before the con(still waiting for my holiday form) but will aim for it off so i may be able to help take some of the furs that fly in to the airport to the con if anyone needs the help.

That would be great Don, I'm sure some would appreciate that! I am thinking of the overnight sleeper or the plane myself.

Overnight sleeper seems expensive - there doesn't seem to be all that many bargain berths available. But I will keep checking!
