View Full Version : Animal Charity Fundraising?

I feel that something that goes well with furry fandom would be fundraising for some kind of animal wellfare charity or organisation.

I know conventions cost alot to put together and everyone involved in running it and participating in a professional context needs paying so there won't be much spare cash floating about... but would anyone object if I did a little donation collecting as myself and my mother do some funraising for a local cat sanctuary in Edinburgh? (official info can be provided to prove legitimacy of course!).

Don't worry, I'm not going to be a tiresome, can rattling, do-gooder getting all up in your muzzle and trying to guilt trip you!

We make animal themed jewellery and accessories (e.g. earrings, bracelets, brotches) and are making fluffy 'eared' hats and paw scarfs, we sell them at charity events and some craft fairs. If it would be ok for me/us to set up a small table somewhere (subject to fees/space) to sell these I could contact some larger animal charity organisation (suggestions?) and make it an official mini-fundraiser table.

I'm just sort of throwing the idea out there, if its simply a no-go thats fine, just say so. If it intrigues anyone then let me know :)

I think what you should perhaps set up is a table at the dealers den! Send an email to dealersden@scotiacon.com or send pinky (Staff member on here) a message :)

Hi Sky. What a lovely idea! We can't do an official charity ourselves as this is early in our con history (though in the future that would hopefully be a lot more feasible). But I think we can definitely work something out, sure! Could you please send me a mail at the address given by Smirnoff with some details? Then I'll be happy to assist you. And on a personal note, thank you for caring about the animals.

I'll have a bit of a discuss with my Mum and see if she's free on the relevant dates and what stock we have already made/available and what we would be able to knock up in time. Then I'll drop you an email with as much info as possible

Shes been aware of my odd hobbies for a long time and we both love animals and do what we can to help them.

Thanks for being open to my idea guys! x
